Ans. Mrs. Packletide wanted to kill a tiger to outshine her social rival Loona Bimberton who had travelled in an airplane with an Algerian pilot. Her photographs were there all over in the newspapers.

Ans. The circumstances proves favourable as there was an old and infirm tiger in the neighbouring village.
